History of Our Family Business

Locally owned, locally loved, since 1945

The year was 1945. . .

As the second world war was drawing to a close, a young serviceman and his pregnant wife had recently relocated to Spokane and were just beginning their entrepreneurial journey that would span seven decades and three generations. The company was ACME Electric, the date was October 15th, and the young couple were my grandparents, Arch and Helen Hanley. Opening a small shop on the corner of East Sprague and Pittsburg, Arch’s vision was to provide superior products and outstanding customer service.

80 years later, while our products have changed and the company has reinvented itself tostay current, that vision remains the same—a dedication to our customers, community and friends who have supported us and allowed us to become one of Spokane's premier furniture showrooms.

The evolution of ACME Electric has seen a radio repair shop become a television store (ACME TV), a television store become Spokane’s first PC store, and then as you know it now, a home furnishings showroom.

This year we're excited to celebrate 80 years in business and three generations of our family.

The Ancient Roman City of Jerash

One of the best things to do in Jordan is to visit the ancient city of Jerash, considered one of the best-preserved Roman-era cities in the world. Actually, Alexander the Great originally founded Jerash (or Gerasa) as a Greek City in the 4th Century BC.

Unlike other ancient Roman cities, you’ll see little restoration; buildings are as it was during the Roman days (or how it has crumbled since). Contemplate that as you walk around exploring what’s left of cultural centers like temples, theaters, and hippodromes. White Australia has such a short, colonized history that you wouldn’t find a building under 200 years old.

You can still see the Greek inscriptions in the crumbling remains of the façade that once faced the city. About three hundred years later, the Romans took control where it grew to be one of the most impressive Roman cities to ever exist.
